A special type of registered trademark is a collective mark, which may be registered by an association whose members may use it if they comply with the requirements fixed in the regulations concerning the use of the collective mark.
The function of the collective mark is to inform the public about certain particular features of the product for which the collective mark is used.
An enterprise entitled to use the collective mark may in addition also use its own trademark.
In the USA, collective marks are used by agricultural cooperatives of produce sellers. The collective mark owner is an organization that does not sell its own goods or render services, but promotes the goods and services of its members.
